Our Philosophy
• At AOE, we strive to ensure that our education prepares students to excel in the fast paced, ever changing world and prepare them to face the unforeseeable future.
• We make sure to bridge the gap between theories and real life applications.
• We include science, research, technology, mathematics, and impeccable speaking and writing of language, whatever the medium of instruction.
• We provide our students with an essential survival tool: resourcefulness.
• With resourcefulness comes a sharpened set of problem solving skills that will help us cultivate future leaders, not followers.

STEM: Science
• Our STEAM program will invite our students to utilize their imagination and curiosity to think outside the box, encouraging independent thinking and creativity.
• We put a strong emphasis on a hands on exploration of various science concepts to keep science entertaining and exciting.
• At AOE, we believe in introducing students to core concepts in science, establishing a foundational understanding of the facts, theories, principles, methods, skills, terminology, and modes of reasoning essential to more advanced or independent learning in an academic discipline. This will allow us to gradually build upon their knowledge as they advance through our program.
FOSS
• Students will utilize the FOSS (Full Option Science System) Science
Kits when exploring science concepts.
• Students will also use comprehensive, meaningful reading materials
for a rich learning experience.
• Students will focus on three major domains in kindergarten:
Physical Science, Earth Science, and Life Science.
Mathematics
• Our STEAM program provides students with concrete experiences with math concepts using exciting and fun materials, ensuring a high probability of success.
• AOE puts a strong emphasis on the process of doing math, not only on getting the correct answer.
• As math concepts are introduced, they are revisited throughout the year to ensure a deep understanding of each topic.
• Students are shown how math can be applied to solve real-world problems.
Everyday Mathematics
• Our STEAM program provides students with concrete experiences with math concepts using exciting and fun materials, ensuring a high probability of success.
• AOE puts a strong emphasis on the process of doing math, not only on getting the correct answer.
• As math concepts are introduced, they are revisited throughout the year to ensure a deep understanding of each topic.
• Students are shown how math can be applied to solve real-world problems.
Gifted and Talented GT Course of Math and Logic
This nontraditional math course aims to provide kindergarteners with a rich and engaging opportunity to develop their logical and mathematical thinking skills. The goal of this course is to help students establish their logical thinking routines, and grasp math concepts efficiently through game based activities before entering grade school. Young learners will experience the fun and beauty of math magic, ultimately establishing a positive attitude toward learning these topics.
This course will cover topics including Verbal learning, Numerical learning, Logic Reasoning, Patterns, and more. The students will become proficient at these topics and skills while preparing for various tests they may need to take, such as gifted and talented tests, and private school or public school entrance tests.
Highlight
• Improve logical thinking skills and establish thinking routines.
• Enhance memory, including working memory, short term memory, and long term memory.
• Develop critical thinking and executive functions.
• Promote success in school entrance tests and academic achievements.
Art
• AOE students will be exposed to both fine arts and music while involving the skills in STEAM projects. This approach will help students understand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics differently.
• In the Art Classes, students will often focus on a specific artist and art technique (for example, sculpture, still life, abstract painting, Picasso, Da Vinci, Brancusi, etc.) and apply their understanding to create their unique projects.
• Students will participate in weekly music classes with a music instructor, introducing both music theory and different types of genres.
• Through art activities, our students will develop the confidence to express their thoughts and feelings while learning to accept feedback, criticism, and praise from others.
Research
• Our STEAM program believes in fostering each student’s natural curiosity and giving them opportunities to explore various research methods. Research based learning is often reserved for students in upper elementary or middle school, but this is a skill that children can and do learn early. Yes, you can teach kindergarteners how to do proper research (i.e., be excellent detectives and readers), and we plan to do so!
• At AEO, students will be taught specific research skills, including formulating hypotheses, observing, planning, collecting, recording, organizing, interpreting, and presenting research findings..
Technology
• Students will be taught how to use technology to research units of study within the classroom and supplement their learning.
• The teacher will ensure that our technology is used responsibly and creatively incorporated into the daily routine and learning process.
• When effectively integrated, technology helps us make the teaching process and learning experience more meaningful and exciting. Students can collaborate with their classmates through technological applications while the teacher transfers into an adviser, content expert, and coach.
Reading and Writing
• Students use language across all subject areas to inquire into the world around them and communicate information and ideas; therefore, literacy instruction is incorporated into all subject areas.
• We will use a range of teaching strategies to promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, including (but not limited to) reading workshops, writing workshops, guided reading, shared reading, shared writing visual and oral presentations, and class literature discussions.
• Each classroom will access grade level appropriate language instructional materials, leveled reading texts, and general classroom libraries.
Typing & Without Tears
• We will continue to use Handwriting Without Tears, a Research based instructional program that teaches developmentally appropriate skills to promote effective learning and good habits.
• In addition to practicing handwriting, students will be introduced to typing through the Keyboarding Without Tears program, which uses developmentally appropriate teaching methods.
Field Trips
Our kindergarten students will attend several field trips throughout the school year. The trips will enhance educational opportunities and create a real life connection between lessons and tangible experiences.
