Kindergarten
• Our STEAM program will invite our students to utilize their imagination, encouraging independent/critical thinking and creativity.
Students will use the FOSS Science Kits (Full Option Science System) when exploring various concepts in Science. This emphasis on hands-on exploration is sure to keep Science entertaining and exciting.
• Our Language Arts program uses a range of teaching strategies to promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, including reading workshops, guided reading, shared reading, shared writing visual and oral presentations, and class literature discussions. Our Reading Wonders textbooks further enhance these lessons.
• Our math lessons provide students with concrete experiences of math concepts using fun materials, ensuring a high probability of success. These lessons are also integrated with the Everyday Math curriculum.
• In addition to our traditional math course, AOE’s kindergarten class participates in the Gifted and Talented program by Brighter Bee Academy. The GT class helps students establish their logical thinking routines and grasp math concepts efficiently through game-based activities.
• In art history, students will focus on a specific artist and technique during their art classes and utilize their understanding of these themes to create unique projects.
• In addition to fine art, the students will participate in weekly music classes with a certified instructor, introducing them to different music genres and music theories.
• These music lessons will transition our students smoothly into their weekly Broadway drama club, where they will get acquainted with the art of theatre and the experience of stage performance.
• In addition to the previously described courses, our kindergarteners will be involved in Spanish, Chinese, Chess, Yoga, Lego Engineering, and Coding/Robotics.
• At AOE, our kindergarteners are introduced to research-based learning, a skill often reserved for upper elementary or middle school students. Students will be taught specific research skills, including formulating hypotheses, observing, planning, collecting, recording, organizing, interpreting, and presenting research findings.
• In the classroom, the students will have access to a wide variety of technology, including our interactive board, chrome books, and a 3D printer. The teacher will ensure that our technology is used responsibly, and creatively incorporated into the daily routine and learning process.
• In addition to our continued use of the Handwriting Without Tears program, students will be introduced to typing in Keyboarding Without Tears, which uses developmentally appropriate teaching methods.
• Our kindergarten students will also attend several field trips throughout the school year, enhancing educational opportunities and creating real-life connections between lessons and tangible experiences.
